Looking for inspiration for your next road bike build?
In this video, you’ll see one of the best combinations you can achieve on a custom road bike:
a classic-looking steel frame with high-performance modern parts.
This bike is a custom Officina Battaglin Marosticana 2022, assembled with top-end components from Campagnolo, Lightweight, and Deda Elementi.
Leroy, the owner, is a passionate cyclist from the Netherlands.
He reached out to us because he was looking for a classic-looking Italian steel frame, custom-made to his specifications.
When he knew there were only 10 build slots available for the Marosticana 2022, he didn’t hesitate to reserve one.
Leroy’s Marosticana was built from scratch after Giovanni Battaglin and Alex designed his custom geometry.
The frame was made from Columbus SL tubing.
The chrome lugs cast lugs and Officina Battaglin’s signature blue cromovelato gave it the authentic look of the Italian frames Giovanni raced to victory in his career.
Despite its classic appearance, the Marosticana is fully compatible with the latest groupsets.
So, Leroy went with the 12-speed Campagnolo Super Record. Obviously, in the mechanical rim-brake version.
The groupsets specifications reflect Leroy’s riding needs.
The 52-36 chainring is ideal for the flat roads he rides around his hometown.
But since Leroy is planning on riding the Marosticana also on Italy’s more demanding roads, he went with an 11-32 cassette at the back.
Leroy’s wheels choice makes this Marosticana one of the most impressive we’ve ever built.
The Lightweight Meilenstein T Schwarz Edition wheelset is in a class of its own.
Leroy wanted its Marostican to retain the purity of a traditional road bike…
And there was no better choice than tubulars to get the smooth ride feel he was looking for.
The tires are the 25-mm Continental Sprinter Gatorskin.
The finishing kit includes a Deda Elementi Superleggero RS Limited Edition stem, handlebar, and seat post.
We completed the build with a white Repente Aleena 4.0 saddle, with a full carbon rail.
We paired it with white handlebar tape, just like Giovanni used to do with his road bike before any race.
